Offers of admission are made to approximately 62 incoming 9th-grade students in order to have a freshman class of 57 - 58 students. This allows for families that may move, decide to have their child attend another school, or refuse the offer of admission for other reasons. Students are accepted into the 10th or 11th grade depending upon available seats and whether the students have taken prerequisite courses, such as Biology and Spanish I.
Yes. The entrance assessment is administered to all applicants. The purpose of the assessment is to provide applicants with the opportunity to interact with coursework similar to that which they will encounter in the ninth grade year.
The assessment has four (4) components: Mathematics (equals 35% of the total weighted test score); Grammar/Reading (equals 20% of the total weighted test score); Science (equals 35% of the total weighted test score) and, a writing sample (equals 10% of the total weighted test score). Students are not allowed to utilize a calculator during the assessment. The writing section is scored by certified English teaching staff using a rubric with scores ranging from 1-5. Students applying to the 10th or 11th grade also participate in the entrance assessment. Their scores are pro-rated to the average scores of those applying for 9th-grade placement.
